Matt Jones Interview, Matt Bevin & the State Airplane, 60 Day Fundraising, Daniel Cameron Ballot Challenge + More

This week we spoke with Kentucky Sports Radio founder and potential U.S. Senate candidate Matt Jones!  Mr. Jones is a well known Kentuckian who both Robert and Jazmin have been reading and listening to for years.  He spoke about what he is currently thinking regarding his candidacy, what it would be like to serve in D.C., and what he thinks about Democrats in Kentucky, among much more.
Jazmin also explained the situation regarding Matt Bevin and his use of the state airplane, which the Courier-Journal has reported about extensively this past week.  Sixty Day Prior fundraising reports were due this week, and Robert broke down who raised what and how much money was spent.  Jazmin also talked through a ballot challenge to Daniel Cameron's Attorney General candidacy, and Robert went over the Kentucky Democratic Party's suit against the Kentucky board of election, which has moved more than 160,000 voters to "inactive" status.

Beshear's Teacher Pay Plan, TV ads, McGrath and Miners, & More

This week, Jazmin and Robert talked about four major stories and several quick hits.  Jazmin explains Andy Beshear's plan to raise teacher pay by at least $2000, and Amy McGrath's new problem with coal miners in her ads.  Robert describes the several different ads that have either appeared on our televisions, or which have been bought and will appear soon and Sen. Morgan McGarvey's concerns about UofL hospital's acquisition of Jewish Hospital.  And of course, Quick Hits!

Mike Broihier interview, Matt Jones' Exploratory Committee, Criminal Justice in KY, Lundergan Trial, + More

This week, Mike Broihier, candidate for U.S. Senate in 2020, joined Robert and Jazmin.  Lt. Col. Broihier spoke openly about why he was running, how he is operating his campaign, and where he sees a path to victory.  Lt. Col. Broihier also talked about issues, including his thoughts on the use of military power.  The group also talked about the importance of removing Mitch McConnell from the Senate.
There were plenty of news stories to cover as well!  Robert talked through another potential U.S. Senate candidate (Matt Jones)'s decision to form an exploratory committee, Jazmin worked through two different criminal justice stories: the CAGED series in the Herald-Leader about jails in Kentucky and the Jefferson County Attorney's decision to stop prosecuting some marijuana cases, Robert went through news that broke during the trial of Jerry Lundergan and Dale Emmons, and Jazmin explained SCOKY's ruling which stopped Andy Beshear's office from hiring outside council.

Penelope Peavler & Carly Muetterties - What Is A Vote Worth, plus Fairness at the Fair, Trump + Bernie Visits, and more

This week Robert spoke to Penelope Peavler and Carly Muetterties about a project sponsored by Frazier History Museum, JCPS, Louisville Metro, and other partners called "What is a vote worth", celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment (women's suffrage) and calling Kentuckians to action.  It was a great conversation!
This week, Morgan Eaves joined Robert to talk about the news, including stories about the Fairness Campaign at the State Fair, President Trump and Bernie Sanders visiting Kentucky, Gov. Bevin getting it wrong about teacher protests, and the improving situation of the state's pension systems.

Leader Rocky Adkins, Hampton Sues Bevin, Matt Jones & Hey Kentucky, + Jewish Hospital Purchased

This week we welcomed Democratic Leader Rocky Adkins to the show!  He's been a mainstay of Kentucky politics dating back to the late 1980s.  We talked to him about leading the Democratic caucus in the House, his recent run for Governor, and what Democratic message can unite urban and rural Kentuckians.  He spoke openly and honestly and we were thrilled to welcome him to MOKP.
We also covered plenty of news items!  Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton is suing former ticket-mate Governor Matt Bevin, Matt Jones has been ousted from Hey Kentucky (and some media outlets are reporting Amy McGrath's campaign might have something to do with that), and Jewish Hospital is being acquired by the University of Louisville.  We talked through these major stories and more.

Greg Stumbo, Attorney General Opinion on Lt. Gov's Office, & Quick Hits

We were thrilled to welcome a legend of Kentucky politics, Greg Stumbo, to our show this week.  Mr. Stumbo is the Democratic candidate for Attorney General and has been Speaker of the House, Majority Leader of the House, and also served a previous term as Attorney General.  We talked about his current race, his history in Kentucky politics, and his priorities if he is elected to another term as AG.
This week we covered the Attorney General's opinion regarding Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton's staff, which came down in her favor.  We talked about the implications of the opinion, and what happens next.  We also talked through several quick hits, including proposals about gun reform on the state and federal level, and news about the President paying a visit to our state soon.

Sheri Donahue, Fancy Farm Wrap Up, Blackjewel Update, and Moscow Mitch

This week, the Democratic nominee for Auditor, Sheri Donahue joined our show.  She spoke at length about using the Auditor's office to deal with cybersecurity issue facing our state's election infrastructure, as well as why she decided to get into politics in the first place.  Ms. Donahue had plenty to say, and we are excited to share her vision with you.
Fancy Farm was last week.  We have a full wrap up, including which zingers we liked and which jokes fell flat.  Jazmin updated the Blackjewel mining story, telling us what's going on with the bankruptcy case, and we also talked about the KDP's response to Mitch McConnell's new least favorite nickname, "Moscow Mitch"

Perry Bacon, Jr. and Super Quick Hits

This week we welcomed Perry Bacon Jr. of FiveThirtyEight and Insider Louisville to the podcast.  We talked about Kentucky politics from a national perspective, touching specifically on the 2019 Gubernatorial race, the 2019 Attorney General's race, and the 2020 U.S. Senate race.  Perry even got us to talk about the Presidential race, and we revealed our favorite candidate for the highest office in the land.
Only five days have elapsed since our last show, but we had plenty of quick hits to cover -- the end of Insider Louisville, Andy Beshear's ethics plan, Sen. Dan Seum's endorsement of Andy Beshear, and plenty more!

Special Session, New US Senate Candidate, Commonwealth Caucus

This week, Jazmin and Robert talked about the Special Session, which started and ended between episodes.  Then, they discuss the entrance of Mike Broihier to the U.S. Senate race, and a new caucus that has formed in the Kentucky House of Representatives.

Local Governments featuring Wesley Bolin & Emily LaDouceur, Special Session Dates, US Senate Update, and Sanctuary Cities

This week, we spoke with two city council members from different parts of the state: Emily LaDouceur from Berea and Wesley Bolin from Murray.  They spoke about the challenges of managing their elected office while maintaining a career, being taken seriously as a younger person in politics, using social media, and lots more.  It was a great conversation -- if you have ever thought about running for city council in your town, you definitely should listen!
We also talked about plenty of news: the "quasis" special session officially has a date, so we talked about that and also went over the Democratic plan for dealing with the issue (we've talked about the GOP plan at length).  We also talked about plenty of speculation around the Democratic side on next year's U.S. Senate election, where it appears like Amy McGrath will fail to clear the field.  We also addressed Matt Bevin's new focus on sanctuary cities, which we decide is probably an attempt to nationalize the Governor's race.  Plus, as always, QUICK HITS.
