This week we visited with Robert Haley Conway, the Democratic nominee for Commissioner of Agriculture.  He's an 8th generation farmer who talked to us about the past, present, and his vision of the future for agriculture policy in Kentucky.  Mr. Conway shared with us his plan, and why he is running for office.  He's a great candidate, definitely check out what he has to say!
Jazmin and Robert recapped two of the recent debates and Matt Bevin getting caught denying forcefully something which he in fact said, as well as the confirmation of Justin Walker, a conservative confirmed as a federal judge who received a "Not Qualified" rating from the American Bar Association.  Most of the time, though, Robert and Jazmin previewed the election, which is happening on Tuesday.  Go Vote!

This week, we spoke to Lexington Councilwoman Angela Evans.  She told us about her reasons for running for office, serving as one of two African Americans on the LFUCG council, her future, and several other topics.  We were excited to speak to her, and we are excited to bring this interview to you!
Jazmin and Robert talked about two stories involving Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, the insertion of the Marshall County shooting into the Governor's race, and a few other smaller stories.

This week, Rep. Patti Minter of Bowling Green joined us to talk about her service in the legislature.  She told us about how she won while running a progressive campaign outside of the two large urban centers in Kentucky, what she did upon arriving in Frankfort, and how she plans to continue serving into the future.  We also asked her about her favorite sets at Bonnaroo, which she has attended for several years in a row.
Jazmin and Robert talked about fundraising on the state level (where 30 day prior reports were due last week) and federal level (where 3rd quarter reports were due), two different election lawsuits -- one involving Daniel Cameron and the other involving the "inactive voters" list, and oral arguments in the Trump administration's appeal of the case overturning Kentucky's Medicaid waiver.  Plus more!

Tuesday Oct 08, 2019

This week, Rev. L. Clark Williams, the chair of The People's Campaign, joined Jazmin and Robert.  He talked about the group's unique people-powered SuperPAC model, and why The People's Campaign was founded.  He also spoke about the connection between religion and politics as well as his thoughts on the lack of African American candidates in statewide races across the state.
Robert and Jazmin spoke about two topics this week -- a recap of the debate in Paducah as well as a discussion about the K-PREP scores, which were made public last week.  Plus, as always, QUICK HITS.

This week's show features an interview with Kentucky Representative Maria Sorolis, who was first elected in 2018 to serve the 48th District.  She talked to us about the increasingly Democratic Louisville suburbs and her passion for voting rights.
Jazmin and Robert discussed several Kentucky politicians takes on the impeachment inquiry and tried to clarify the "inactive voter list" issue.  And, as always, QUICK HITS.

This week Robert interviews Shay McAlister, the host of the podcast Bardstown, which centers around the string of murders and disappearances in Nelson county which have been occurring since 2013.  She’s also a reporter for WHAS TV. Robert and Shay talked about the content of the show as well as the process of making it with Vault Studios, a group which makes True Crime podcasts across the country.
Before that, we have four big stories to talk about: Jazmin will walks us through the Supreme Court’s oral arguments about the death penalty for people between 18-20, Robert refreshes the Real ID story which we’ve been talking about since 2016, Jazmin updates us about Gov. Bevin’s use of the state plane, and Robet goes over a big shakeup in the Bevin campaign.

Wednesday Sep 18, 2019

This week we spoke with Kentucky Sports Radio founder and potential U.S. Senate candidate Matt Jones!  Mr. Jones is a well known Kentuckian who both Robert and Jazmin have been reading and listening to for years.  He spoke about what he is currently thinking regarding his candidacy, what it would be like to serve in D.C., and what he thinks about Democrats in Kentucky, among much more.
Jazmin also explained the situation regarding Matt Bevin and his use of the state airplane, which the Courier-Journal has reported about extensively this past week.  Sixty Day Prior fundraising reports were due this week, and Robert broke down who raised what and how much money was spent.  Jazmin also talked through a ballot challenge to Daniel Cameron's Attorney General candidacy, and Robert went over the Kentucky Democratic Party's suit against the Kentucky board of election, which has moved more than 160,000 voters to "inactive" status.
(We apologize about the audio quality this week.  We fixed our mics around the 17:20 mark, but had recorded the interview and the first few sections of the show with a bad setting.)

Broihier also talked about issues, including his thoughts on the use of military power.  The group also talked about the importance of removing Mitch McConnell from the Senate.
There were plenty of news stories to cover as well!  Robert talked through another potential U.S. Senate candidate (Matt Jones)'s decision to form an exploratory committee, Jazmin worked through two different criminal justice stories: the CAGED series in the Herald-Leader about jails in Kentucky and the Jefferson County Attorney's decision to stop prosecuting some marijuana cases, Robert went through news that broke during the trial of Jerry Lundergan and Dale Emmons, and Jazmin explained SCOKY's ruling which stopped Andy Beshear's office from hiring outside council.
