This week on the podcast, we are excited to welcome Cara Stewart!  Cara is an amazing lawyer with Kentucky Equal Justice Coalition who is one of the lawyers in the lawsuit(s) against the Bevin Administration's Medicaid Waiver.  She speaks with us at length about the main lawsuit in Washington DC and how it would impact Kentuckians.
Before that, Jazmin and Robert discuss Kentucky Wired -- after several months of saying we were going to talk about this program, the show has arrived!  They also talk about the mayoral races in Kentucky's two largest cities.

This week, Jazmin and Robert speak with Gail Swanson, a candidate in the 88th district in Lexington.  She's the third candidate from that district we've spoken to!  Before that, we discuss the newest news about Matt Bevin's house (this story is still happening!) as well as take over of JCPS by the state board of education.  Also in this episode is the information about Governor Bevin's final vetoes and signatures of 2018, and a new game: Big Deal or Little Deal.

What a week!  On this episode, Robert and Jazmin speak with Morgan Eaves, a candidate for Kentucky House in the 81st district (Richmond).  She talks about why she's running, what she hopes to accomplish, and what it's like running against one of the more ...unique characters in the House of Representatives.
Before that, Robert and Jazmin talk through the insane amount of news from the last week: first, Jazmin explains the arguments in Andy Beshear's lawsuit challenging the pension law.  Then, Robert goes through the end of the session--what happened with the budget and revenue bills, and which laws got passed and didn't get passed in the final days.  Next, Robert and Jazmin discuss Matt Bevin's incredibly offensive comments about teachers demonstrating in Frankfort on Friday.  Finally, they talk about the machinations in the Board of Education leading to the replacement of the Education commissioner (who was replaced in the middle of recording the show!).  There's even a quick hit!  It's a bunch of news and a longer episode, but a lot happened this week!

Wednesday Apr 11, 2018

This week, Jazmin and Robert speak with Josh Hicks, the Democrat running in the 45th district in Fayette County against Rep. Stan Lee.  He spoke with us about the importance of transparency in government and building a government of which citizens can be proud.
Before that, Jazmin and Robert talk through all the bills they'd mentioned in shows during the session, and update us about their status ahead of the final two days of the session.  Then, Robert talks through the Governor's vetoes of the budget, revenue, and pension phase-in plan bills, and what happens next.  Plus, this week there are Quick Hits!

Wednesday Apr 04, 2018

What a week!  First up on the podcast, Erik Jarboe of the New Kentucky Project joins Robert and Jazmin to talk about the pension bill, which was attached to a sewage bill last week and passed through the legislature; and the budget, which also made it out of conference and passed both chambers.
Then, Cassie Chamberes Armstrong, the Kentucky Democratic Vice Chair joins Robert and Jazmin to talk about what KDP does and doesn't do, her role, and how she thinks about her future.

Wednesday Mar 28, 2018

In this week's episode, Jazmin and Robert speak with Dr. Carolyn Dupont, a candidate for Kentucky Senate in the 22nd District, covering part of Fayette County and all of Garrard, Jessamine, and Washington Counties.  We spoke about her passion for education and criminal justice reform.
Before speaking with Dr. Dupont, Jazmin talks to us about an open records sneak attack that almost made it's way into law last week, and Robert tells us about two different bills about tax reforms -- one good and one bad.

Wednesday Mar 21, 2018

No guest this week! Even though we didn't speak with anybody, we had plenty to talk about.  Jazmin explains HB 169 -- the gangs bill -- and why it has the potential to cause a lot of problems for our judicial system.  Robert then talks about the Senate passing their version of the budget, including what is in their bill and what happens next in the process.  Finally, Jazmin explains the judicial restructuring plan of Justice Minton, and the pared down version working it's way through the legislature.  We wrap up with QUICK HITS!

Wednesday Mar 14, 2018

This week, Jazmin and Robert interview Jeff Grammer, a candidate for the Kentucky House of Representatives for the 36th District (covering much of Middletown in Jefferson County) about why he's running, and how to win as a Democrat in the suburbs.
Then, Robert and Jazmin talk about the fading prospects of Senate Bill 1 (pension reform) and House Bill 166 (Medical Marijuana).  Finally, Jazmin updates us about Matt Bevin's trip to West Louisville were he spoke with Trump advisors and activists, Rebecca Johnson dropping out of her House race, and the fate of Rand Paul's attacker.

Wednesday Mar 07, 2018

This week, Jazmin and Robert speak with Rob Weiderstein, a former judge in Henderson County running for the 11th district's house seat.  Rob spoke with us about politics in small cities, and issues he hopes to tackle if he makes it to Frankfort next year.  Before that, Robert talks us through the progress being made on the pension bill and budget, and Jazmin explains two major bills also making their way through the legislature about child marriage and adoption.
