There is still a pandemic going on!  We bring plenty of updates about Kentucky's ongoing response to the coronavirus and it's increasingly political nature.  The legislature finished it's work today (4/15/20), but we recorded a few hours before sine die -- so listen to our updates but be sure to read the newsletter.
Our interview this week was with Glenn Hammond, a Democratic candidate for Kentucky Senate from Pikeville.  He spoke to us at length about his passion for public service, why he is running again for this seat, and his plan to keep keep Kentucky's money in Kentucky.

This week's episode features multiple updates about the COVID-19 crisis. In addition to a rundown of the latest regulations, we looked into a lawsuit about interstate travel filed against Gov. Beshear and state bidding wars for PPE.  Jazmin and Robert also discussed a possible promotion to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals for a Mitch McConnell protege, Justin Walker.
Shirley Flynn Mitchell was our guest this week.  She's running in the Democratic primary in the 45th House District in Lexington, and we talked about her background, why she's running, and what she wants to do when she gets to Frankfort.

This week Robert and Jazmin discuss the legislature's move to pass a one-year budget instead of the normal biennium budget, summarize the ten bills passed by the legislature last week, and talk through Gov. Beshear's ongoing response to COVID-19.
Joining MOKP for the second half of the show is Col. Pamela Stevenson, a Democratic candidate for the 43rd House District in Louisville (the seat currently occupied by Rep. Charles Booker).  She talked about why she decided to run this year, how she would go about working with the House, and a really neat metaphor about diversity and ice cream.

This week Jazmin and Robert talked about Andy Beshear's continuing response to the COVID-19 outbreak, including a huge meme group that has popped up to support him.  Also discussed were the bills being advanced by the legislature in the midst of the outbreak, and a discussion of the Senate budget, which was passed last Thursday.
We had a guest this week!  Corey Nichols, a Democratic candidate in House District 45 in Lexington, joined us to talk about campaigning in the era of coronavirus, his reasons for running, his faith's impact on his candidacy, and what issues he would champion in the legislature.

This week, E.A. Duncan joins Robert to talk through some major issues in a huge week for news.  The House GOP proposed a budget and passed it -- we talked through some of the major differences between the House and Executive budget.  After the budget passed, Democrats stopped HB 475, the sales tax bill discussed on the show last week.  E.A. and Robert talked about why that occurred and what might happen because of the actions taken by Democrats.  Finally, the group discussed Andy Beshear's response to COVID-19, which has received high marks.

Discussion this week include the some bills which the Trump administration think Kentucky should pass about school choice, potential additional revenue options for local governments, and Jazmin and Robert's opinions about how the Democratic Presidential Primary might impact Kentucky.
We interviewed Lamar Allen, a Democratic candidate in the 56th District.  He talked to us about running for office with a three year old child, issues he is passionate about, and his thoughts about African American candidates in Kentucky.

Bob Gibson, a Democratic candidate for State House in Versailles, joined us for an interview.  He spoke about his background in education, what he's learned on the campaign trail so far, and what he hopes to accomplish in Frankfort.

Robert and Jazmin talked about several bills this week, including legislation regarding Kentucky Wired, creating a taxing and regulation scheme around vaping, school performance metrics, and a game of "big deal/small deal."
The interview this week is with Suzanne Kugler, a Democrat running for Kentucky House in southeast Louisville. She talked about running for office in the Louisville suburbs, her support for a minimum wage increase, and why she decided to run for office.

This week, Robert and Jazmin talked about several bills, including addressing the automatic transfer of juveniles to circuit court, banning corporal punishment, and significant changes to SBDM councils.  Robert also talked about the use of fund transfers to balance the budget, and Andy Beshear taking a stand against Jonathan Hurst.
Also in this episode is an interview of Mike Eaves, candidate for Kentucky House in the 81st District in Richmond.  He talked about why he's running, what he hopes to accomplish in Frankfort, and which legislators he thinks are doing a good job.
